If you run a bookstore and host a book club on Bookclubs, you can connect your own store to the club so that when members buy a book you're discussing, the sale comes to you instead of Amazon.
What you can set up
There are two ways to link your store, and you can use either or both:
- Bookshop affiliate ID. If you have a storefront on Bookshop.org, add your affiliate ID and every buy button links to that specific book's page inside your storefront. You earn the commission on the sale.
- Buy from Us link. A single link to your own website or store, used on every book's buy button. It doesn't change per book, so it's the faster option if you don't use Bookshop.org, or if you'd rather send people to your own site directly.
You can set both if you want (for example, Bookshop for most titles and your own site as a fallback), though in practice most stores pick one.
What happens to Amazon and Buy from Bookclubs
Once you add either link, it becomes the primary buy option on your club's pages. Amazon and Bookclubs' own "Buy from Bookclubs" button are both hidden for that book. This happens everywhere a buy button shows up in your club: book pages, meeting book lists, currently reading and recommendation lists, and meeting emails.
This only changes what members see on your club's own pages. It doesn't change buy buttons on other clubs, or on general book pages members reach outside of your club.
Premium is required
Bookshop affiliate links and Buy from Us links are part of Bookclubs Premium. If your club isn't on Premium yet, you'll see an upgrade prompt when you try to add either one. Borrow-from-us library links are the exception and don't require Premium.
How to set it up
- Go to your club's Settings page.
- Find the Store links section. If this is your first time, you'll see a prompt asking if you run a bookstore. Answer yes to reveal the fields.
- Enter your Bookshop affiliate ID, your Buy from Us URL, or both.
- Save. Buy buttons update immediately, no need to reload the page or wait for anything on our end.
This is available on web and in the Bookclubs app.
Get found by more readers
Every club on Bookclubs, including yours, shows up on our Join a Book Club page, where readers search by location and interest to find a club to join. Running your club through Bookclubs puts you in front of readers who've never been to your store, not just your existing customers.
Running more than one club?
If your store hosts multiple clubs, email help@bookclubs.com. We can offer a discount for upgrading all of your clubs to Premium at once, and set you up with a single hub page listing all of your clubs together, so readers can find every group you run in one place.
