How do I approve or decline follow requests?

Modified on Tue, 3 Nov at 5:56 PM

Open your follow requests and select Accept or Decline next to each person. A reader you accept can see your shelves, reading stats and clubs. A reader you decline still sees only your first name, when you joined and your Favorites.

Where to find your follow requests

  • Website: on your profile, select Follow Requests under your name. You can also go straight to Follow Requests.
  • App: on the My Friends tab, tap Follow Requests. It only appears when someone is waiting.
  • Notifications: a follow request notification has an Accept button, which will open your Follow Requests.
  • Email: select Accept [Name]'s request in the email to open your follow requests.

Accept a request

Select Accept, or Accept All on the website to accept everyone waiting. The reader is notified that you accepted. To follow them too, select Follow back. When you follow each other, you're Friends.

Decline a request

Select Decline, or Decline All on the website. The reader isn't notified.

Declining is final. The reader can't send you another request, and you can't change a decline to an accept later. They can still see your Favorites.

Let readers follow you without approval

If you'd rather not approve each follower, turn on Let anyone follow me in your Privacy settings. In the app, go to More > Account > Privacy settings. When it's on, new followers can see your shelves right away, and you'll get a notification when someone starts following you.

Follow request emails and notifications

Go to Email and Notification Settings. In the app, go to More > Account > Email and Notification Settings. Under Followers and follow requests, you can turn these on or off:

  • Email me about follow requests
  • Notify me when someone follows me or requests to follow me
